The FRESHFARM Dupont Circle Market is one of Washington's signature farmers markets and easily one of our favorites for turning grocery shopping into an entire Sunday morning.
During peak season, the market brings together more than 50 farmers and producers offering an enormous variety of local and regional goods. Depending on the week, you'll find conventional and certified organic fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats, poultry and eggs, artisan cheeses, breads and baked goods, fresh pasta, pickles, jams, locally roasted coffee, flowers, plants, prepared foods, and plenty of things you probably didn't have on your original shopping list.
And late August is an especially good time to go. Summer produce is still abundant, so this is when we start thinking about the meals that barely need a recipe: ripe tomatoes with good cheese and bread, peaches eaten over the sink, fresh corn, berries, herbs, and whatever else looks too good to leave behind.
The market itself is also substantial enough that you don't need to rush through it. Grab coffee, walk the full market before deciding what to buy, and give yourself time to browse. FRESHFARM adjusted the Dupont Circle layout earlier in 2026 to create wider pedestrian areas along 20th Street, which has given shoppers more room to move through one of the market's busiest sections.
Make a Morning of It in Dupont Circle
This is where the market becomes more than a place to buy groceries.
Once you've finished shopping, you're already in the middle of Dupont Circle, so don't immediately head home. Walk over to the circle itself, grab breakfast or another coffee, wander Connecticut Avenue, or explore some of the quieter residential streets toward Embassy Row.

The neighborhood's restaurants, cafés, historic architecture, Metro access, green spaces, and residential streets all sit within a relatively compact area, so a simple trip to the farmers market can easily turn into a few hours spent around the neighborhood.
For people considering Dupont Circle real estate, mornings like this are also useful. You get a much better sense of the neighborhood when you're experiencing it alongside the people who actually live there rather than simply driving from one property showing to another.
What to Look for at Dupont Circle This Time of Year
One of the pleasures of shopping at a farmers market is allowing the season to determine what's for dinner.
Late August is still prime time for tomatoes, peaches and other stone fruit, summer squash, beans, corn, peppers, herbs, and berries. As September progresses, the market begins shifting toward the flavors we associate with early fall.

The market was established in 2016 and joined the FRESHFARM network in 2023. Today, it brings local farmers and producers to Connecticut Avenue every Saturday morning, with fresh produce, meats, seafood, breads, coffee, and prepared foods among the offerings.
The current 2026 vendor lineup includes names such as Atwater's, Cold Country Salmon, Garner's Produce, Kuhn Orchards, Stone Pillar Farm, TOIMOI Bakery, Zeke's Coffee, and several prepared-food vendors. Because vendor attendance and seasonal products can change, we always recommend checking FRESHFARM's current market information before visiting if you're going specifically for something.
FRESHFARM currently lists summer produce including tomatoes, blueberries, green beans, summer squash, and okra among what's in season, which makes late August an especially good time to visit before the market starts transitioning toward fall produce.

If you're looking for something smaller and more neighborhood-oriented, Cleveland Park on Saturday morning is ideal. Pick up your weekly staples, grab coffee, and then explore Connecticut Avenue or take a walk toward Rock Creek Park.
Better yet, make a weekend of it: Cleveland Park on Saturday, Dupont Circle on Sunday.
